MAMO Basics: What Stays True Week After Week

Who built Mamo, how the MAMO token works, where its rewards come from and why your deposits stay in your own hands.

What Mamo is

Mamo calls itself your personal finance companion. Accounts exist for USDC, Bitcoin (cbBTC), ETH and MAMO [1]. For USDC and cbBTC, Mamo places your funds with the lending apps Moonwell or Morpho on Base, picks whichever pays more and adds the earnings back to your balance [2].

Who built it

The Mamo website names Lunar Labs Inc. as the company behind the app and says it is made "by builders from" Coinbase, Apple, Amazon, Lyft and X [1]. The docs describe a team with experience at those same companies [4]. The founder is Luke Youngblood [5]. On his own website he lists himself as founder at Lunar Labs, formerly at Coinbase and AWS, where he led the development of Coinbase's staking infrastructure [6].

Lunar Labs also contributes to Moonwell, the lending app on Base [7]. Mamo's code sits in Moonwell's GitHub organization [8]. The two projects are close relatives. Mamo's first prototype, then called Mamoriko, won first prize (Best Overall) at the Coinbase Developer Platform AI Hackathon in February 2025 [9].

A fixed supply, shared without venture capital

MAMO launched on Base on 20 May 2025 with a fixed supply of 1,000,000,000 tokens [10]. The verified token code has no owner and no function that lets the team create new tokens. Its only mint function can be called by the Superchain Token Bridge alone, a system contract that mints on one network what was burned on another [11]. The contract shows exactly one billion today [12].

The docs are clear on the split: no venture capital allocations and nothing released on day one for the team, the treasury or platform development [10].

The vesting runs on-chain through Sablier. Treasury and platform development each release 10,416,667 MAMO on the 21st of every month until 21 May 2027. The team received a quarter after the six-month cliff and gets the rest monthly until the same date [13]. On 21 September 2026, about 193 million MAMO from these allocations were still waiting to vest [13]. More supply is ahead, released in small, planned monthly steps instead of all at once. In August 2026 the treasury also placed 48 million already released MAMO into new streams that run until May 2028 [14].

100% of trading fees go to depositors

If you deposit MAMO into the MAMO Account, you earn 100% of Mamo's platform revenue. That revenue comes from trading fees in twelve MAMO pools on Aerodrome, the largest decentralized exchange on Base [15]. The rewards come entirely from those fees, with no extra token incentives on top, so they rise and fall with trading activity [16].

Rewards flow into your account continuously throughout the week. Every Thursday the reward rates are reset. Mamo announces the token breakdown on X as The Mamo Drop [15]. In recent weekly updates, the larger part of the rewards was paid in Bitcoin (cbBTC), the rest in MAMO [16][17]. You choose between two settings. Compound turns everything into more MAMO. Reinvest sends the Bitcoin to your Bitcoin Account. There is no lock-up [15].

Your wallet, your vault

Deposits go into a personal smart contract vault that belongs to your wallet alone, not into a shared pool. Every deposit, withdrawal or strategy change needs your signature. If Mamo ever went offline, you could still reach your funds through any standard wallet or block explorer [3]. Upgrades also need your explicit approval [3].

Checked by outside experts

Certora reviewed Mamo's core infrastructure in March 2025. Halborn audited the Mamo contracts in May 2025, the Transfer and Earn feature in August 2025 and the strategy implementation in December 2025 [18]. On top of that, a bug bounty with Sherlock pays up to 250,000 USD for responsibly reported security issues [18].

We also like how Mamo talks about risk. Its own docs say that rates change, that no code is perfect and that the lending apps behind the USDC, cbBTC and ETH accounts carry no government insurance [3].
